Maria Montessori Montessori Education is founded on the concepts created by Maria Montessori, who started her first school in a Rome apartment block for children of low-income employees in 1907. "Casa dei Bambini," or "Home for Children," was the name of the school. This initial "Casa" was equipped with a teacher's table, a heater, a chalkboard, some seats, children's group tables, and a cupboard containing supplies produced by Montessori during her previous career as she investigated how to teach children with mental disabilities. Maria Montessori developed the tools after observing that students really seemed to grasp complicated concepts faster when all of their senses are engaged.  Personal hygiene (such as clothing and undressing) and environmental care (such as sweeping, dusting, and gardening) were among the tasks at this initial school.  They were free to wander around and play with the materials the rest of the time. Maria Montessori did n...
